Initiating Another Review Round

Kryoni JMS provides two approaches for managing workflow progression during the review process: Flexible Workflow and Controlled Workflow.

Flexible Workflow

When Editorial Workflow Flexibility is enabled, editorial users have greater control over moving a submission between workflow stages, even when certain review or revision activities are still pending.

Depending on the enabled settings, editorial users can:

  • Move a submission from Submission to Review even when revisions are pending.

  • Skip the Review stage and move directly to Production even when revisions are pending.

  • Move a submission from Review to Production even when revisions are pending.

  • Move a submission from Review to Production even when peer reviews are still pending.

This provides flexibility for journals where the editorial team needs to make workflow decisions without waiting for every pending review or revision activity to be completed.

Controlled Workflow

When these options are disabled, the corresponding workflow restrictions will be enforced.

For example, if Allow editorial users to move a submission from Review to Production even when peer reviews are pending is disabled, the editorial user must wait until the required peer-review activities are completed before moving the manuscript to Production.

Similarly, disabling the revision-related flexibility options prevents the submission from progressing while the applicable revision requests are still pending.

note

These settings provide journal-level control over how strictly the editorial workflow should be enforced. Enable them when editorial users require greater flexibility, or disable them when all required review and revision activities must be completed before the manuscript can progress to the next stage.
